Luxury Delhi Hotel Ranks Top 3 in Tripadvisor's 2023 Best Luxury Hotels, Faces ₹58 Lakh Fraud Incident

Roseate House, an upscale hotel in Delhi, has been ranked as one of the top three luxury hotels in the national capital by Tripadvisor, a renowned American travel agency. The recognition comes from Tripadvisor’s prestigious ‘2023 Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Luxury Hotels’ list. Roseate House, located in Delhi’s Aerocity, secured an impressive second position among luxury hotels in Delhi and a commendable 23rd rank among India’s best luxury hotels. Tripadvisor’s website mentions that the Best of the Best award is granted to less than 1% of its 8 million listings.

Recently, an incident came to light at Roseate House involving a guest who allegedly cheated the hotel out of ₹58 lakh by not settling his dues before checking out, following an almost two-year stay. The hotel administration discovered the fraud during an internal audit and investigation. Subsequently, they filed a complaint with the police, naming Ankush Dutta from Assam, a guest, and Prem Prakash, the head of the hotel’s front office department, among others. The deputy commissioner of police (IGI Airport), Devesh Kumar Mahla, confirmed that a case was registered, and an investigation is underway to verify the involvement of the individuals mentioned in the complaint.

The hotel lodged the first information report (FIR) on May 24, based on a complaint made by the hotel management in February. The complaint stated that Ankush Dutta stayed at the hotel for a minimum of 603 days but departed without paying his bill. Prem Prakash, who is accused of facilitating Dutta’s extended stay, had the authority to set room rates and had access to the hotel’s computer system, enabling him to monitor guest dues. Prakash has been charged with failing to inform the management about Dutta’s prolonged stay and manipulating guest account entries by forging, deleting, adding, and falsifying numerous records.

According to a police officer, as mentioned in the complaint, it is suspected that the alleged employee may have received cash from the guest in exchange for allowing an extended stay by manipulating the hotel’s in-house software system, which monitors guest stays. The investigation is ongoing to unravel the details of the alleged fraud and determine the extent of involvement of the accused individuals.
