Srinagar Records Low Participation**
As the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 progress into Phase 4, voter turnout in the Srinagar region has emerged with disappointing figures, according to the latest update as of 9 am. The electoral constituencies within the Srinagar region depict a concerning trend with several areas recording notably low participation rates.
In Central Shalteng, the voter turnout stands at a mere 3.16%, reflecting a lackluster response from the electorate. Similarly, areas like Channapora and Habba Kadal are witnessing a sluggish turnout, with figures hovering around 2-3%.
Chadoora and Char-e-Shareef constituencies have reported slightly higher participation rates at 9.62% and 8.30% respectively, but still fall below the desired levels. The trend continues in other areas such as Eidgah, Ganderbal, and Hazratbal, where the turnout remains below double digits.
Notably, Khanyar constituency has reported a striking 0.00% turnout, signaling a concerning apathy or logistical challenges affecting voter engagement in the area.
Kangan (ST), Khan Sahib, and Lal Chowk constituencies are also experiencing subdued participation, with figures ranging from 6-8%.
The highest participation rates in the region are witnessed in Shopian and Rajpora, although even these areas are grappling with relatively low turnouts, standing at 7.03% and 5.87% respectively.
Tral and Zadibal constituencies are reflecting moderate participation rates, but still fall short of the desired levels, recording 3.70% and 3.25% turnout respectively.
Overall, the voter turnout in the Srinagar region averages at a mere 5.07%, highlighting the urgent need for enhanced efforts to encourage citizen participation in the electoral process.
