Locals offered Eid prayer at Eidgah in Kathua

Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of the fasting month of Ramzan.

In Kathua, a large number of people congregated at the Eidgah and offered namaz. The special Eid prayers  drew large crowds.

People are greeting each other after the prayers and are taking part in the festivities. Shops in the city’s main markets, especially those around Masjid are doing brisk business as people shopped for the festival.

The festive spirit is palpable elsewhere in Jammu and Kashmir.

However, authorities did not allow Eid prayers at the historic Jamia Masjid in the old city, after allowing Fajr namaz and put MirWaiz Umar Farooq under house arrest.

The district administrations had made elaborate security and other necessary arrangements for the festival.

On the occasion of Eid today, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath today is coming to Kathua to address a rally there.

The Eid-ul-Fitr festival falls immediately after Ramadan month after the crescent moon of Shawwal is sighted. All the Muslim festivals are based on the lunar calendar, therefore, the moon sighting dates of Muslim festivals are important.

This year, Eid-ul-Fitr will likely be celebrated on April 11, 2024, while other countries like UAE, Saudi Arabia, and more, will observe it on April 10, 2024.

This festival is a time of peace and celebration, and it is a time when they come together as a community marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan which is a time of spiritual reflection and celebration.
