Amit Shah meet: The ongoing situation in the violent state of Manipur will be discussed during a number of meetings that an influential tribal group from Manipur will have with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the nation’s capital. An invitation from Shah was accepted by a team from the Indigenous Tribal Leaders’ Forum (ITLF), a group that speaks for the several Zo ethnic groups in Manipur.

The ITLF leaders travelled to Churachandpur in Manipur and then took a flight from the Lengpui airport to Delhi. Chief Minister Zoramthanga expressed optimism for the success of the discussions with the Home Minister. He claimed that on Saturday, the ITLF leaders had a day-long debate and asked his opinion on whether or not he should accept the offer.

I suggested that they accept the invitation. I told them that it would be beneficial to speak with the Home Minister in person at this time, said Zoramthanga.

After considerable deliberation, the ITLF leaders unanimously agreed to see Shah. The group had previously been invited to a meeting with the home minister in Delhi to talk about the situation in Manipur.

Over 160 people have died as a result of ethnic violence between Kukis and Meiteis in Manipur over the past three months.
