The Income Tax Department has issued a reminder to all taxpayers to file their income tax returns (ITR) before the deadline of July 31, with no further extensions being considered by the Centre.
To avoid last-minute rush, the department tweeted, “3 days left to file your #ITR The due date to file your ITR for AY 2023-24 is 31st July, 2023. Remember to e-verify after filing.”
Completing the process involves e-verifying the filed ITR within 30 days. The verification can be done through various methods, including:
- Using OTP on the mobile number registered with Aadhaar
- EVC (Electronic Verification Code) generated through pre-validated bank account or demat account
- EVC through ATM (offline method)
- Net Banking
- Digital Signature Certificate (DSC).
Upon successful e-verification, you will receive a transaction ID and a confirmation email on your registered address.
The Income Tax Department revealed that as of July 27, over five crore income tax returns had been filed, with approximately 4.46 crore of them being e-verified, which constitutes more than 88% of the total filed ITRs. Furthermore, more than 2.69 crore e-verified ITRs have already been processed.
To assist taxpayers, the department has established a 24×7 helpline offering support through calls, live chats, Webex, and social media. This support will be available until the deadline of July 31, including weekends.
