Department of Social Forestry Division Kupwara initiates awareness drive ahead of June 5 celebrations
Handwara – May 28, 2025 – In the run-up to World Environment Day, observed annually on 5th June, the Department of Social Forestry Division Kupwara has kickstarted a series of environmental awareness activities under the theme “Combating Plastic Pollution.”
The department unveiled its official banner for the 2025 campaign during a public gathering today, marking the beginning of a week-long prelude aimed at engaging the public, especially youth and local communities, in the fight against single-use plastics.
Speaking on the occasion, officials from the Forestry Division emphasized the critical threat posed by plastic pollution to forests, wildlife, and human health. The campaign calls for collective efforts under the slogan:
“A Campaign Against Plastic Pollution – Let’s Together Pledge to Save the Blue Planet for a Bright Future.”
Tree plantation drives in schools and community spaces,Clean-up operations in forested and urban areas,Awareness rallies with students and volunteers
Workshops promoting alternatives to plastic use
Educational outreach in collaboration with local institutions
The department urged citizens to adopt environmentally responsible habits and to support initiatives that reduce plastic waste at the source.
“This is not just an observance but a movement to drive sustainable change,” said a department spokesperson. “Kupwara is taking a strong stand against plastic pollution and setting an example of proactive environmental stewardship.”
World Environment Day will be formally celebrated on 5th June.
