Lieutenant Governor J&K Manoj Sinha Friday said that Kupwara which was once considered a hot bed of militancy has now switched to home of tourism and sports activities. He said the district has always acted gateway of peace in the region.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of inaugural function of multi-purpose indoor stadium in north Kashmir’s Kupwara, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said Kupwara was once considered as hot bed of militancy. He said after a decades time people of the district understood the nefarious designs of terrorists and repercussions of this ill-fated game. “Today Kupwara is on way of peace and development. The locals are contributing immensely in nation building, which clearly defines that J&K is changing after Article 370 abrogation,” Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha as per said.
He said today a multi-purpose indoor stadium worth rupees 400 crore was inagurated in the district with an aim to provide a rich platform to local youth and engage them into sports activities. “I wish this endeavor will play a positive role in bringing youth to a platform where from their talent and skill will be showcased to the world,” LG said.
To a query, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said Kupwara has turned an attractive destination for tourists and government is doing much to enhance the tourism potential in the district. “In past Kupwara was abandoned by regional political groups but let you see today it has been brought on the map of tourism. There is a considerable flow of tourists in the district and administration is keenly interested in augmenting the facilities further,” he said.
