A 19-year-old man was reportedly assaulted with a knife by a 20-year-old assailant in broad daylight at a bustling marketplace in Greater Noida’s Dadri area on Tuesday afternoon, as confirmed by the police.
The incident was caught on a street CCTV camera, with the footage circulating on social media. In the video, a shirtless man brandishing a knife in his right hand confronts the victim. As the victim falls to the ground, the assailant continues his attack.
Subsequently, a group of people intervenes, pulling the attacker away from the victim.
The alleged attacker, identified as Guddu from Taju, is now being sought by the police. The victim, identified as Shadab Khan from Chand Masjid locality in Dadri, sustained injuries to his right arm during the assault.
According to Khan, Guddu, who appeared to be under the influence, directed offensive remarks at passersby. Khan intervened, asking him to desist, which led to a verbal altercation.
Khan explained that after the heated exchange, Guddu left, but returned ten minutes later accompanied by another individual. They proceeded to assault him with a knife.
“Guddu attempted to target my neck, but I defended myself and suffered a deep cut on my forearm. He tried again, but people on the street gathered to rescue me. Guddu and his accomplice fled. I collapsed and was taken to a nearby hospital, where I reported the incident to the police,” recounted Khan.
Sujeet Upadhyay, the in-charge of Dadri police station, stated they were alerted about the attack by the private hospital where Khan was admitted.
Khan received 18 stitches on his forearm and has lost mobility in one of his fingers.
“Based on the victim’s statement, an FIR (first information report) has been filed, including charges of assault, causing hurt with a dangerous weapon, intentional insult, and criminal intimidation under the Indian Penal Code, against Guddu and an unidentified suspect. Police teams are actively searching for the suspects, who are currently on the run,” Upadhyay affirmed.
This incident occurred just a day before the inauguration of the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show at Greater Noida’s Expo Mart. In anticipation of the trade show, Section 144 of the CrPC has been imposed in the Gautam Buddha Nagar district.
