Former opener Wasim Jaffer believes that interim Indian captain KL Rahul will be benched in Test cricket after a lackluster batting display during the two-Test series in Bangladesh. Jaffer hinted that Shubman Gill might open the innings alongside skipper Rohit Sharma during the upcoming four-match home Test series against Australia.
Rahul managed to score only 22, 23, 10, and 2 in the four innings of the two Tests against Bangladesh. Notably, the Indian opener has scored only 137 runs in four Test matches in 2022, at a paltry average of 17.13. On the other hand, Gill, who was drafted as a replacement for India captain Rohit Sharma, hit his maiden Test hundred in the second innings of the Chattogram Test. However, Gill struggled in the Dhaka Test, scoring only 27 runs in two innings.
