Kathua, January 23: The iconic Atal Setu at Basohli received a dazzling transformation making it even more tempting for locals and tourists.
MLA Basohli Darshan Singh, Dir ACB Shakti Pathak and Deputy Commissioner , Dr. Rakesh Minhas, formally inaugurated the newly installed lights.
This initiative of the District Administration, fulfilling a long-pending public demand, aims to enhance the bridge’s visual charm and solidify its status as a key tourist attraction in the region.
Speaking at the occasion, MLA Basohli Darshan Singh appreciated the district administration’s efforts in fulfilling this demand, adding that the facade lights would elevate the aesthetic appeal of Basohli town and attract more visitors to the region.
Director ACB Shakti Pathak who is Son of the Soil said that the lighting added a new dimension to the Atal Setu’s appeal. He also lauded the initiative of the Administration for spearheading the unique “Basohli Art on House Buildings”, which has transformed the town into a vibrant hub of traditional art and culture.
Deputy Commissioner Kathua, Dr. Rakesh Minhas, highlighted the significance of the Atal Setu as a symbol of engineering excellence and regional progress. “The Atal Setu is more than a bridge; it is a landmark of connectivity, development, and architectural brilliance. The facade lighting amplifies its grandeur, particularly during the night, making it a must-visit destination. This initiative will undoubtedly boost tourism and place Basohli prominently on the global tourism map,” he said.
Dr. Minhas further reiterated the district administration’s dedication to developing Basohli into a hub for art, culture, and adventure tourism.
Pertinently, the Atal Setu, North India’s first cable-stayed bridge in Jammu and Kashmir, spans the Ravi River, linking the union territory with Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. The newly installed facade lighting system uses energy-efficient LED lights, offering a dynamic range of colors and patterns while minimizing energy consumption. The eco-friendly system enhances the bridge’s magnificence without compromising sustainability.
Local residents and visitors expressed their delight at the new lighting, calling it a “spectacular addition” to the town’s charm.
The event concluded with a dazzling lighting display, leaving attendees in awe and marking a significant step in Basohli’s journey toward becoming a premier tourist destination.
ADC Kathua Ranjit Singh, ADC Basohli Anil Thakur, SDM Hiranagar Rakesh Kumar, CEO BBDA, Parteek Anil, Tehsildar Basohli, and other senior officers were also present.
