‘Yatri Niwas, cafeteria and pilgrim facilities proposed at Sharda Temple in Teetwal to boost cross-border heritage tourism’
The Jammu and Kashmir government is focusing on promoting the Karnah Constituency in the Kupwara district, highlighting its potential as a tourist spot. The region includes beautiful villages like Teetwal, Karanoo in Nawagabra, and Budnambal, which could become popular destinations. Steps are being taken to showcase these villages for tourism, including building a Yatri Niwas at the Sharda Temple in Teetwal to encourage pilgrim tourism.
In response to MLA Javid Ahmad Mircha’s questions, the Tourism Department recognized that Karnah has great tourism potential due to its stunning landscapes, rich culture, and proximity to the Line of Control (LoC). The villages are noted for their natural beauty, meadows, and cultural significance, making them suitable for nature, adventure, and cross-border heritage tourism.
One important project initiated is the establishment of the Yatri Niwas and a cafeteria at the Sharda Temple to serve visitors. The government believes that this construction will enhance pilgrim tourism in the area, given the temple’s cultural and religious importance, and attract more visitors in the future.
