JK’s educational institutions join nationwide campaign on ‘Women Empowerment’

Awareness rallies on “Women Empowerment” were organized by the students of various educational institutions across J&K for the second consecutive day today to commemorate 250th birth anniversary of Raja Rammohun Roy, the father of Modern India.

These rallies are being jointly organized by the Department of Libraries & Research, J&K and the School Education Department, J&K under the aegis of Raja Rammohun Roy Library Foundation (RRRLF), Ministry of Culture, Govt of India.

The objective of these rallies is to make aware the society, especially women, about their empowerment, their rights and promoting women’s sense of self-worth, their ability to determine their own choices, and their right to influence social change for themselves and others.

In Srinagar, an impressive rally was taken out by the students of Govt Girls Higher Secondary School, Chanapora.

The rally was flagged off from GGHSS Chanapora, Srinagar by Mtr Sameena Wani, Principal of the Institution. The rally culminated at the District Library Srinagar where it was welcomed by the Deputy Director, Lbraries & Research Kashmir, Sheikh Zahoor, I/C District Librarian, Rufaida Shaheen and other staff members.

Around 250 students from Complex Head Chanapora participated in the rally, carrying banners, posters and placards and chanting slogans about ending gender discrimination and empowering women.

The program was hosted by the lecturers of GHSS Chanapora, Ms Anjum Sahar and Ms Najmu Sahar and the inaugural address was presented by Vice Principal of GHSS Chanapora, Mr Tahirul Hamid. Many teachers and students also spoke on the occasion and threw light on the contribution of Raja Rammohun Roy in the uplift of women and empowering them. Ms Rifat Saroor lecturer economics presented her poem in Kashmiri relevant to the occasion.

Principal GHSS Chanapora, Dr Sameena wani who was also the chief guest on the occasion presented a poem “Mujai Naaz Hai” inspiring the girls to be proud of being born and brought up as women. The vote of thanks was presented by Ms Shagufta Banhali, lecturer Commerce.

Another rally was organized by the students of Govt Model Girls Higher Secondary School, Ranibagh Anantnag. The rally started from GMGHSS Ranibagh and culminated at District Library Anantnag.

Another similar rally was organized by the students of Govt Higher Secondary School Nehama in district Pulwama.

In Jammu, a mega awareness rally of students on Women Empowerment was organized by the District Library Kathua. The rally was flagged off by Shri Raghunandan Singh, Vice-Chairman DDC Kautha.

Director, Libraries & Research, Mohammad Rafi while appreciating the heads of the participating educational institutions for successful conduct of the program at their respective schools, expressed gratitude to Prof A P Singh, Director General, Raja Rammohun Roy for his unflinching support towards development and expansion of library activities in J&K including upgradation of infrastructure.
