J&K News: India’s first lithium reserves found in Jammu and Kashmir, will leave China behind in availability

Lithium Found In Reasi: The quality of lithium of the country’s first lithium reserves found in Jammu and Kashmir is the best. A senior government official gave this information on Saturday. This discovery has raised a ray of hope among the local villagers. The villagers hope that their future will be bright with this discovery. Be aware that the Geological Survey of India (GSI) has detected 59 lakh tonnes of lithium, an important metal used in making electric vehicles and solar panels, in Reasi district.

100% lithium is imported
Jammu and Kashmir’s Mining Secretary Amit Sharma said that lithium comes under the category of rare resources. Till now it was not available in India. Because of this, we are 100% dependent on its imports. The G-3 (advance) study conducted by GSI has revealed that the lithium deposits present in Salal village (Reasi district) situated at the foothills of Mata Vaishno Devi shrine are of high quality. 

The study is yet to be done
Amit Sharma said that there is a wide use of lithium. Its discovery during India’s G-20 presidency will provide an opportunity to Jammu and Kashmir to showcase its rich reserves. When asked about the time frame for commencement of mining, the Mines Secretary said that every project takes its own time. He said that we have studied G-3. G-2 and G-1 study will be done before starting metal mining.

There is an atmosphere of enthusiasm among the villagers,
Deputy Sarpanch of Salal village Rajendra Singh said that this is a proud moment for all of us. Rail project and Mata Vaishno Devi pilgrimage are the biggest means of employment for the local people, but now this (lithium) project will prove to be transformative. He said that the villagers are also very excited about this discovery.
