Distressed family members of the NRI Avtar Singh who was killed during a fracas in a land dispute case on April 30 evening in Greater Kailash, blocked Jammu-Pathankot National highway at Greater Kailash area in Jammu on Thursday (May 2) and staged a protest demanding justice for their son.

“We have registry of our plot since 20 years. The goons damaged our CCTV cameras, broke plot’s gate locks and were painting the walls. They have thrown out our goods.

“What kind of justice can be given to that mother whose son has been murdered.  Accused Parshottam sent four women to attack me. A gang of 15 men forced my son in our room and killed him. If there is govt then it must provide me justice.”, says Mother of deceased Avatar Singh while lamenting his son’s murder.

“In UP, the properties of criminals are razed by the govt and we want the same in this crime case to set an example in Jammu and Kashmir. If local govt is serious and is not standing with land grabbers then it should set an example just like UP regime. The properties of all the accused persons must be demolished to set a precedent that land snatchers must not be left unpunished. Gola Shah has been booked under PSA for four times earlier and what if he can again kills someone in future as PSA is not a solution. A very strict action is needed against him so that he will understand his land grabbing business will not operate anymore here”, said social activist Mr Amandeep Singh Boparia.

When asked about the injuries inflicted to deceased Avtar Singh’s mother by the goons, he answered, “This is a whole nexus and this gives a bad message outside J&K that an NRI comes to Jammu and he got killed in a land dispute in police presence. This is a very grave matter. This a very well knitted network of land grabbers and they have did 4-5 registries of a single plot, they have looted money from poor persons”.

“We demand a CBI inquiry in this murder case keeping in mind the involvement of several people. A CBI inquiry is must otherwise we will not receive justice. If LG sir wants then anything can be brought to light in  Avatar’s killing case”, an elderly protestor said.

“We are trying to gain the confidence of deceased’s family members on our side. We can understand resentment of the people against police and the inaction happened by the police side has been dealt by law. The probe in this murder case is going in a fast track manner.  We request locals to tell us about more involved people and we are thoroughly probing the indulgence of influential people in this case. We know and are knowing more about this case and we want public support to hold accountable the culprits in this murder case”, a senior police official on the sidelines of agitation said.

On April 30 evening, a group of six men attacked an NRI based in Newzealand, Avatar Singh and his family in their plot in Greater Kailash and which resulted in the murder of Avatar in GMC, Jammu, whose family has claimed that they purchased the property in 2004 from land dealers.

After the incident, six accused were nabbed by Jammu police yesterday for Avatar Singh killing and they were identified as Parshottam Singh, his son Suraj Singh residents of Bari Brahmana, Vikas Singh of Greater Kailash, Sandeep Charak of Sarore, Rajat Jandiyal son of Gola Shah. While one of the key accused in this killing case Ravinder Kumar alias Gola Shah of Greater Kailash, the land grabber, has been booked under PSA by the police today.
