Jammu: Several drivers in Jammu on Monday expressed resentment over the new central govt rules for punishing drivers over frequent road mishaps, the Centre has tightened the rules for penalising drivers.

The Centre has changed the rules about motor vehicles. Now, if a commercial vehicle driver runs away after a mishap, there is a provision of imprisonment of up to 10 years and a fine of Rs 5 lakh or 10 lakh.

Speaking to the media, an elderly local driver said, “We strictly condemned this new rule if the govt implements it. The govt should understand that in the coming times no one would choose this driving profession if this new rule is enacted”.

“The drivers has biggest contribution in the economy of this country by working day and night. To benefit few special people the regime has introduced this law against drivers and we will not tolerate this.

“The govt must take back this law just like it scrapped farming laws otherwise their end is near. Drivers shouldn’t be underestimated. It will be implemented against commoners also.

“We are observing a one day strike and talks are going on. The home minister should think again on this law as drivers already face many restrictions”.
