(SCO) foreign ministers meeting: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar will hold three crucial bilateral meetings on Thursday with the SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang.

The meeting will take place on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) foreign ministers meeting in Goa.

With the alleged attack on the Kremlin on Wednesday, the Russia-Ukraine war is going to be at the forefront of the conversations in Goa and could dominate the talks between the Russian and Indian ministers.

The first bilateral meeting before lunch would be with SCO Secretary-General Zhang Ming, where the emphasis would be to promote the principles of the ‘Shanghai Spirit’, strengthen mutual political trust, deepen cooperation in various fields, staunchly uphold international justice, facilitate the Organisation’s expansion, modernise its internal structure and ensure the effective work of various mechanisms.

(SCO) foreign ministers meeting: In a meeting with the Chinese foreign minister on April 19, Zhang Ming spoke about priority activities of the SCO Secretariat, including efforts to facilitate the implementation of the consensus reached by the leaders of member states, support for the organisation of the main annual SCO events held by the presiding state, as well as active involvement in improving the SCO mechanism and expanding the Organisation.

This could be the contours of his meeting with Jaishankar.
