Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) achieved a historic soft landing on the Moon, making India the fourth country to do so, the government issued a warning on Thursday regarding fake Instagram accounts pretending to be the renowned national space agency.

The government also shared the correct profile name of ISRO’s official Instagram handle.

“To combat multiple #FAKE Instagram accounts posing as the official Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) account, note that the authentic ISRO account is ‘isro.dos.’ For accurate information, please visit ISRO’s official website: isro.gov.in,” stated a post by the PIB’s fact-checking unit on X (formerly known as Twitter).

The PIB (Press Information Bureau) operates as a central agency under the Government of India and falls under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting (MIB). It plays a crucial role in disseminating information about government policies, initiatives, and programs to various media platforms.

ISRO also maintains a presence on Threads, the recently launched social network by Meta Platforms (formerly Facebook, Inc.).

Regarding India’s third lunar exploration mission, Chandrayaan-3, it was launched on July 14 and successfully achieved its scheduled soft landing on the Moon’s South Pole on August 23 at 6:04 pm. This achievement triggered celebrations throughout the country. Notably, India became the first country to achieve a soft landing at the Moon’s South Pole, a destination that was the objective of the mission. Prior to this accomplishment, only the United States, Russia, and China had achieved soft landings on Earth’s natural satellite.
