Senior Political Leader and Former MLA Ganderbal Sheikh Ishfaq Jabbar on Thursday visited Rezan Ganderbal where several residential houses and cowsheds were damaged due a massive mudslide on Sunday evening.
Sheikh was accompanied by DDC Wakura Mohd Ashraf , DDC Ganderbal Molvi Mohd Yousuf, BDC Wakura Gh Mohd Malla, Socio-political activists Gh Mohidin Kasana, Ab Ahad Barwali, Manzoor Ahmad Kullan, Sarpanch Hayan Showkat Ahmad and others.
Mr Jabbar visited the families and interacted with them. The families whose houses were damaged in the landslides demanded their rehabilitation.
“We have become homeless. We demand immediate relocation to some safer place. We have no source of income to construct new house. We appeal to the authorities to provide us monetary helpto rebuild our homes,” they demanded.
They further said and alleged that the landslide was triggered due to the ongoing tunnel works in the area.
The former MLA on the occasion dialed Deputy Commissioner Ganderbal and demanded that the administration should select a piece of land where the affected families could be rehabilitated.
Sheikh Ishfaq assured them that he will also raise the issue with LG Manoj Sinh so that no disaster victim will be left homeless.
Mr Jabbar said that the UT government should provide all required assistance and rehabilitate every disaster victim and those affected by the landslide should be provided houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana.
