Rajasthan Royals defeated Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk for the first time since 2008 in the Indian Premier League. After their spectacular three-run win on Wednesday, the Royals stormed to the top of the points table in the 2023 IPL.
Chasing 176, CSK were boosted by a Devon Conway half-century and a rapid knock from Ajinkya Rahane before a middle-order collapse. Shivam Dube, Moeen Ali and Ambati Rayudu failed as the Royals took a stronghold of the game.
With the required-rate climbing up sharply, the onus was on Ravindra Jadeja and MS Dhoni to deliver victory for the Super Kings.
MS Dhoni has shown this summer he has still not lost his six-hitting touch, but the target had become a bit too tough by the end of the CSK innings.
Dhoni did show glimpses of his past with a four and six off Adam Zampa in the 18th over, but Ravindra Jadeja, who had another good night with the ball, just could not find any kind of momentum with the bat until it was too late for CSK.
Rajasthan Royals did make a few questionable moves with the bat but fortunately for them, those errors did not cost them, unlike in the game against Punjab Kings a week ago.
