Inter Miami in final: Lionel Messi and Inter Miami reached yet another final on Wednesday, defeating FC Cincinnati on penalties in the last four stages of the US Open Cup.

The game, which appeared to be slipping away from Inter Miami, ended in a 3-3 tie before the club won 5-4 on penalties.

Cincinnati had seized the lead in the 18th minute through Luciano Acosta and appeared to be in cruise control when Brandon Vazquez made it 2-0 in the second half.

In the 68th minute, Messi delivered a precision assist on a free kick, leading to a goal by Leonardo Campana. As time ticked away, Messi once again showcased his brilliance with a dazzling pass to Campana in stoppage time, equalizing the score and forcing the game into extra time.

Josef Martinez scored for Inter Miami in the 93rd minute, thanks to an assist from Benjamin Cremaschi.  FC Cincinnati, on the other hand, showed tenacity and tied the game in the 114th minute when Yuya Kubo found the back of the net.

The tension reached a climax in the 119th minute, when Messi took a free-kick that was beautifully saved by the opposing custodian.

On FC Cincinnati’s fifth effort, keeper Drake Callender of Inter Miami finally made the difference-making stop. Then Inter Miami’s Benjamin Cremaschi made a decisive play to advance to the U.S. Open Cup final.
