According to an official statement from the Indonesian Defence Ministry, the Indonesian government has invested USD 300 million in acquiring 12 drones from Turkish Aerospace, aiming to bolster the country’s defence system. The contract with Turkish Aerospace was signed on February 3, and the ANKA drones are set to be delivered before November 2025. This purchase is intended to enhance the variety, quantity, and quality of Indonesia’s military defence equipment.
In addition to the drone acquisition, Indonesia’s Defence Ministry expressed the need for rapid delivery of fighter aircraft defence equipment due to the declining combat readiness of its air force caused by the aging of existing aircraft. To address this issue, Indonesia agreed to buy a dozen advanced Mirage 2000-5 fighter jets from Dassault Aviation for USD 805 million in January. However, this deal faced criticism due to concerns about the age of the equipment, which was previously used by the Qatari air force.
In response to the urgent requirements of the air force, Defence Minister Prabowo Subianto authorized the purchase of 42 units of Dassault Rafale fighter aircraft in February 2022. The first batch of six twin-engine Rafale fighters is expected to be delivered in January 2026, with three of them arriving initially. This acquisition is aimed at addressing the immediate needs and modernizing Indonesia’s air defence capabilities.
