Indian Swachhata League 2.0 commences in Kishtwar Cleanliness, plantation, awareness drives held at Prestigious Chowgan Ground President MC, DC & SSP lead events

The Municipal Council (MC) Kishtwar, under the chairmanship of President Sajjad Ahmed Najjar, and under the close management of EO Municipal Council Ninad Sen, today collaborated with the District Administration Kishtwar, Police Administration, Forest Department, Sports Department, GDC Kishtwar, and the Education Department to organize a series of events at the prestigious Chowgan Ground as part of Indian Swachhata League 2.0.
The main event had Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Dr. Devansh Yadav as the chief guest, while SSP, Khalil Ahmed Poswal- was the Guest of Honour. Other notable attendees included ADC, Inderjeet Singh Parihar; ASP, Rajinder Singh; Tehsildar, Muneeb Umar; DySP, Vishal Sharma, Councillors, CEO, Prehlad Bhagat, DYSSO, Kharati Lal Sharma, and representatives from the Forest Department and GDC Kishtwar, who enthusiastically participated in the events.
Awareness program engaged youth groups, NSS Cadets from GDC Kishtwar, school going students, and staff from collaborating departments. The waste collection and cleanliness drive in the Chowgan ground was led by the senior officers of District and police administration.
The events were aimed to foster a positive change in public attitudes toward cleanliness, with the goal of achieving a garbage-free nation, UT, and district. Active community participation was evident throughout the events, promoting the use of dust bins, efficient greywater management, and biodegradable materials.
During his speech, Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar emphasized that the Municipal Council Kishtwar had scheduled various activities under this initiative, including cleanliness drives, awareness rallies, and plantation efforts, with a special focus on cleaning the historically significant Chowgan Ground and the town center. He highlighted the deployment of area specific dedicated sanitary workers to maintain the ground’s cleanliness, stressing its historical and public significance to the entire district. The league’s primary aim is to engage residents, especially the youth, in building a garbage-free town,he added.
He urged them to collaborate with MC Kishtwar and the District Administration to realize the vision of a Clean and Green District, besides encouraging maximum participation in the ongoing Sunday for Chowgan Campaign, which is the regular feature in the district.
Furthermore, Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar encouraged Kishtwar’s residents and visitors to uphold cleanliness in the Chowgan Ground and town wards by responsibly utilizing dustbins and availing the services of MC’s Garbage Collecting Vehicles for door-to-door waste collection.
SSP Kishtwar also addressed the audience, emphasizing that cleanliness is a civic responsibility, and those who misuse the Chowgan Ground by littering or discarding glass bottles will face strict penalties including fine.
Chairman MC highlighted the civic body’s initiatives aimed at making Kishtwar cleaner and greener.
As part of the event, a plantation drive and an awareness rally were organized at various locations within Chowgan Ground by MC Kishtwar and its stakeholders under the aegis of Indian Swachhta league 2.0.
