Virat Kohli was seen applauding Yashasvi Jaiswal after the 22-year-old opener’s dismissal after a brilliant 161 on Day 3 of the Perth Test against Australia. The video of Kohli’s gesture has gone viral, as the former India captain clapped in admiration for Jaiswal’s remarkable knock against Australia at the Optus Stadium.
Jaiswal’s innings, which included 15 boundaries and 3 sixes off 297 balls, was cut short when Mitchell Marsh claimed his wicket, caught by Steve Smith. The young opener appeared stunned as he slowly walked off the field, clearly disappointed to leave such a memorable knock unfinished. As he made his way back to the dressing room, the crowd rose to acknowledge his extraordinary effort, while Jaiswal raised his arms in recognition of their applause Earlier in the match, Kohli was spotted on Day 2, stepping onto the field in his full batting gear to cheer on Jaiswal and KL Rahul. The two openers had built an impressive 172-run partnership, much to the delight of Indian fans. Kohli’s encouragement was a testament to his support for his teammates during one of the most thrilling days of Indian Test cricket in Australia.
Jaiswal became only the fifth Indian opener to score 150 or more in a Test innings in Australia on Day 3 of the opening Test at the Optus Stadium in Perth. The 22-year-old openers joins an elite group comprising Ravi Shastri, Virender Sehwag, Sunil Gavaskar, and VVS Laxman. Notably, Sehwag (2003, 2008) and Gavaskar (1985, 1986) have achieved this feat twice.
Jaiswal also became just the second player after South Africa’s Graeme Smith to convert each of his first four Test centuries into scores of 150 or more. At 22 years and 330 days, he is the fourth-youngest Indian centurion in Australia, with Sachin Tendulkar still the youngest, having scored a hundred at 18 years and 253 days in 1992.
