India Successfully Completes First Phase Field Trials of Indigenous Light Tank

India has achieved a significant milestone in defense manufacturing, with officials announcing the successful completion of the first phase of field firing trials for the Indian Light Tank. This versatile tank, developed for high-altitude deployment, is designed by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in collaboration with Larsen & Toubro.

The Defence Ministry praised the tank’s performance during the trials, stating that it efficiently met all the intended objectives. “After producing the first prototype, it underwent preliminary automotive trials in-house. The field trials have successfully met the intended objectives in desert terrain,” the Army said. The first phase of trials evaluated the tank’s firing capabilities, which demonstrated impressive accuracy on the intended targets.

The development of this indigenous Light Tank represents a major advancement in India’s self-reliance in defense technologies. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh lauded the DRDO, the Indian Army, and the involved industries for their success, calling it a crucial step towards achieving independence in critical defense systems.

The Indian Army plans to deploy more than 350 of these light tanks in mountainous regions along the border, primarily to counter China’s growing military presence. This indigenous solution is expected to enhance India’s ability to maintain security in challenging high-altitude environments.
