Suryakumar Yadav Shines: India defeated West Indies by seven wickets in the third T20I to maintain the five-match series, and Suryakumar Yadav once more proved his unmatched brilliance in the shortest format with a dashing 83-run effort.
Chasing 160, India lost both of their openers quickly. Yashasvi Jaiswal was out for one in the first over, while Shubman Gill only made six runs before being bowled by Alzarri Joseph. With India at 34 for 2 in the fifth over, Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma teamed together to create an excellent counterattacking stand.
Suraykumar, who struggled in his first two T20Is, began his innings with a boundary and a six off his first two deliveries, and he built on that foundation to continue. India lost both of their openers cheaply while chasing 160 runs, but the 32-year-old never wavered. The West Indies were unable to stem the tide of runs as the Indian batsman struck his 14th T20I fifty in just 23 deliveries. The 32-year-old didn’t stop there, continuously securing boundaries to give India total dominance of the game.
After deciding to bat, West Indies had their best start of the series thanks to a 55-run partnership between King and Kyle Mayers (25 off 20). The surface was slow, as was to be expected, which led Hardik Pandya to start using spin as early as the third over through Axar Patel, who gave up a few boundaries. This assignment was given to Yuzvendra Chahal, who often does not bowl the first six overs. Mayers swept Chahal for a six to put him under immediate pressure.
After the powerplay, Kuldeep, the third spinner, entered the fray to bowl. Mayers blasted Kuldeep for four on his first pitch. Three balls later, a courageous King stepped out to smash Kuldeep’s googly for a straight six. Pooran joined King after Mayers and Johnson Charles were discharged and made an effort to assert his dominance over the Indian bowlers. On the next ball, he collected a boundary after knocking Kuldeep over long-on as he advanced down the track .
