According to the latest data from the Union Health Ministry, India reported 11,692 new cases of Covid-19 on Friday, which is a slight decrease from the previous day. The number of active cases in the country is now at 66,170.
As of Friday, the death toll due to Covid-19 in India has risen to 5,31,258, with 28 new deaths reported, including nine reconciled by Kerala. The Union Health Ministry has stated that active cases now account for 0.15% of the total infections, and the national Covid-19 recovery rate is at 98.67%. The total Covid-19 case tally in India has been recorded at 4.48 crore (4,48,69,684).
The Covid-19 situation in India remains a concern as several states report a rise in cases.
In the national capital, Delhi, the number of daily Covid-19 cases has declined slightly, with 1,603 cases reported on Thursday compared to 1,767 on Wednesday. The positivity rate stands at 26.75%, and three fatalities were reported.
On Thursday, Haryana recorded 1,059 new cases of Covid-19, with three individuals losing their lives due to the virus. The total number of active cases in the state has now risen to 5,099. The death toll in Haryana has reached 10,727.
According to the state health department bulletin, Maharashtra reported 1,113 new cases of Covid-19 on Thursday, with the total number of active cases now at 6,129. The state also reported three deaths in the last 24 hours due to the virus.
Earlier on Wednesday, Dr PK Mishra, the Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, chaired a high-level meeting in response to the surge in Covid-19 cases across the country.
The meeting focused on the status of preparedness of health infrastructure and logistics, drugs, vaccination campaigns, and necessary steps to combat the recent surge in Covid cases, the PMO informed in a statement.
