Good start for India: India easily defeats China 7-2 in their opening game of the 2023 Asian Champions Trophy, with captain Harmanpreet Singh and Varun providing the offensive spark with vital penalty corner goals. India began their 2023 Asian Champions Trophy campaign with a convincing victory over China at Chennai’s Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium.
Captain Harmanpreet Singh scored two consecutive penalty corner goals for India in the first quarter to get the game off to a great start. India already enjoys a comfortable lead of 2-0 thanks to its early start. Before the quarter drew to a close, Sukhjeet increased the advantage to 3-0. Drag-flickers by successfully aiming for the area, Harmanpreet and Varun took advantage of the huge room between the man manning the post and the left side of China’s goalkeeper.
India checked almost all the boxes on the offensive front. They had a shot on the Chinese goal almost every second minute, scored goals off penalty corners, scored goals during open play, and pressed high. India scored from 5 out of the 9 penalty corners they took, partly as a result of the poorly placed Chinese defenders.
It might have improved. The entire team performed admirably despite the fact that we missed a few decent chances. We can succeed in the following matches because this is only the first one, Manpreet remarked after the game.
