The United States supports the resolution of the India-China border dispute through dialogue between the two countries. One of the person in a Joe Biden administration for South and Central Asia said on Thursday, adding that the US has found some evidence that Beijing is trying to negotiate with India.
During an interview with PTI, Assistant Foreign Minister for South and Central Asia Donald Lu said that our stand on India’s border dispute with China is outdated. We support the settlement of this border dispute through dialogue and between the two countries.
We see little evidence that the Chinese government is taking these talks seriously in a spirit of goodwill. What we see is the opposite. Responding to a question, Lu said that we are seeing provocations along the Line of Actual Control on a fairly regular basis.
The senior State Department official said the United States can count on standing with India as it continues to face challenges from its northern neighbor.
He said that we demonstrated that resolve during the Galwan clash in 2020 and we have been looking for opportunities to cooperate with India on information as well as military equipment, exercises and this will move forward in the years to come.
The Center for a New American Security, a top US think-tank, said in a report last month that the growing prospect of India-China border hostilities will have an impact on the United States and its Indo-Pacific strategy.
