Officials say revised schedule to be announced once snow conditions improve
Srinagar, Feb 17 : Officials announced on Monday that the 5th edition of the Khelo India Winter Games (KIWG), scheduled to take place in Gulmarg from February 22 to 25, has been delayed because of insufficient snowfall.
An official informed that a new assessment will take place when snow conditions better, and a new schedule will be released accordingly.
He stated that after discussing with the technical committee, they have chosen to delay the event, since essential ski slopes of Affarwat and Bowl do not have enough snow.
“The necessary snowfall for competitive events is lacking, so we must delay the occasion.” “Rauf Tramboo, President of the Winter Games Association of Jammu and Kashmir (WGAJK), informed that ‘the games cannot proceed unless new snowfall occurs.'”
He mentioned that they held a thorough meeting regarding this matter, and it was agreed that the subsequent decision will be made after February 19, since the weather office has forecasted wet weather, with fresh snowfall anticipated in Gulmarg.
Previously, the government announced that every logistical aspect, such as hotel reservations, event organization, and infrastructure preparation, has been carefully finalized.
Approximately 700 attendees, comprising 650 technical personnel, representatives, and local competitors, were anticipated to participate in the event.
