India Meteorological Department: (IMD) has predicted that the first cyclone of the season in the Bay of Bengal is likely to move towards the Bangladesh-Mynamar border.
“The low-pressure area over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Andaman Sea has become Well Marked Low-pressure Area over the same region at 0530 hours IST of today, the 9th May 2023,” said the IMD.

“It is very likely to intensify into a depression by today evening over the same region, then into a cyclonic storm over southeast BoB and adjoining areas of east-central BoB and Andaman Sea on 10th May. To move north-northwestwards initially till 11th May,” said the weather department.The low pressure area over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining South Andaman Sea has become Well Marked Low pressure Area over the same region at 0530 hours IST of today, the 9th May 2023. It is very likely to intensify into a depression by today evening over the same region.The IMD said the storm would recurve gradually and move north-northeastwards towards the Bangladesh-Myanmar coasts.
Meanwhile, a red warning has been issued for fishermen. They have been advised not to venture into the deep sea of the North Bay of Bengal from May 12 to 14. The fishermen have also been advised to return to the coast by May 11.
