2.5 Lakh Kanals of Land Occupied Across Ten Divisions of Jammu

In a concerning revelation, official figures indicate that nearly 2.5 Lakh Kanals of forest land across ten divisions in the Jammu region have been subject to ‘illegal’ encroachment by various individuals, groups, and organizations.

The data, obtained through a Right to Information (RTI) application filed by activist M M Shuja, discloses that approximately 2,46,450 Kanals of land (equivalent to 12,466.9 hectares) are currently occupied by encroachers.

The Public Information Officers (PIOs) in the region unveiled this information, shedding light on the pressing issue of unauthorized occupation, raising questions about the preservation and management of vital forest resources.
