The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) attended the Matho Nagrang Festival at Matho monastery. He was accompanied by First Lady Neelam Mishra. Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal, was also present on the occasion. HLG watched the monks performing Chhams (sacred mask dance) during the festival.
Wishing people on the occasion of Matho Nagrang, HLG appreciated the people from different religious communities for maintaining brotherhood and religious harmony in Ladakh. He stated that he is a member of the family of the people of Ladakh and he assured to work for the region’s overall development as a family member does. He assured to work for further developing education and health sectors in Ladakh along with working for the protection of land and environment and ensuring employment for the youth through various skilling programmes.
HLG informed about the initiatives taken by the Administration along with both the Hill Councils to provide immediate relief to the citizens of Ladakh stranded in Delhi, Jammu and Chandigarh by airlifting them by Indian Air Force’s flights. He also assured to tackle the issue of exorbitant airfares charged by the airlines operating to Ladakh so that the people of Ladakh don’t have to suffer. He assured to meet the aspirations of the people of Ladakh and provide them with all possible facilities.
HLG asked for the cooperation of the people of Ladakh so that he could expedite the developmental activities to serve every Ladakhi, including the last man living in the remotest location. He also informed about the efforts being made by the Government of India to develop Ladakh in all sectors. He stated that he will work tirelessly in close coordination with the Centre to develop Ladakh.
Earlier, Member of Parliament from Ladakh, Jamyang Tsering Namgyal; Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh, Stanzin Chosphel and Manager of the Matho monastery accorded a warm welcome to HLG and First Lady on their arrival at the monastery.
