The Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh, Brigadier (Dr) BD Mishra (Retd) met a delegation of students led by Smt Dechen Chuskit, at Raj Niwas. Advisor, Shri Umang Narula and Principal Secretary, Shri Sanjeev Khirwar were present in the meeting.
Smt Dechen informed HLG that there are around 200 students from Leh who have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) and are currently pursuing PhD. She also informed about the recruitment of teachers for 142 posts notified by the District Subordinate Services Recruitment Board (DSSRB) Leh. She further informed that the DSSRB has made Bachelor of Education (BEd) and Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET) compulsory for candidates to qualify for the written examination.
Smt Dechen informed that around 20,000 candidates are expected to apply for the posts out of which the majority are without BEd degrees and have also not qualified for the CTET exam. She also informed that the syllabus issued by DSSRB is not subject-specific and not as per the Centre government. She requested for relaxation in the norms so that the maximum number of candidates can appear for the written examinations.
Smt Dechen requested HLG for the notification of gazetted posts of lecturers and Assistant Professors at the earliest.
HLG informed the delegation that the UT Administration and the Hill Councils have to follow the norms to recruit well-qualified teachers to improve the education standard and also to provide quality education to the students. He assured that the Recruitment Rules for gazetted posts of lecturers and Assistant Professors would soon be notified. He also assured that a decision keeping the best interest of the candidates and people of Ladakh would soon be taken by the Administration.
