Poonch: Several transporters on Tuesday held a agitation against newly enacted  central govt Hit-Run Law demanding its immediate roll back or else face repercussions.

The operators of different types of commercial vehicles today in Mandi tehsil of Poonch expressed their anguish and raised slogans “Driver Ekta Zindabad” (Hail Driver’s Unity) against the newly imposed  provision in the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita which gives punishment of up to 10 years or a fine of Rs 7 lakh for drivers who cause a serious road mishap by driving rashly and run away from the scene without informing the police or the local govt.

“This protest is against the dark law which is being implemented by the union govt. We strongly condemn it and ask the present govt to take it back because of this the drivers will suffer greatly.

“The drivers are already in debt as their vehicles are already under loans. How will the drivers would pay loans, educate their kids  that’s why we ask govt to take it back or else we will hit roads”, one of the protestors told media.
