The three-day Historic Sankri Devta Mela, which commenced on September 15, 2023, in Block Panchari of District Udhampur, culminated with an overwhelming participation of over 90,000 visitors and devotees.
People from different areas of the UT flocked to the mela site to pay obeisance at the temple and seek the blessings of the Devta.
District Development Council Chairperson Udhampur, Lal Chand; Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Saloni Rai; SSP Samba, Benam Tosh; BDC Chairman, Jeevan Sharma; DDC Councillor, Jasvir Singh; and other prominent persons, along with officers and local residents, visited the Sankri Mela and paid their respects at the Sankri Devta temple.
While addressing the gathering, the DDC Chairperson and DC congratulated the people and emphasized that such melas play a crucial role in exchanging cultural and traditional values, spreading the message of brotherhood, peace, and prosperity.
They stressed the importance of preserving the rich culture and traditional values of the area, highlighting that these melas are an indispensable part of our culture.
The mela was organized under the overall supervision of Deputy Commissioner, Saloni Rai. The district administration had made elaborate arrangements for security, drinking water, power supply, Medicare, traffic regulation, and more to ensure the successful culmination of the three-day mela.
The three-day mela witnessed the presentation of exhilarating performances, including folk music and dance besides theme-based skits, by students of the local educational institutions and folk artists from surrounding areas, depicting the traditions of the area.
Numerous departmental stalls, temporary sweet shops, toy shops and other fun items set up by local and outside vendors were the main attractions for the general public visiting the mela site.
