Himalayan Bird Count: Young Minds Collaborate for Conservation and Baseline Data Generation

The 2nd ‘Himalayan Bird Count’ event was conducted at Govt. Degree College, Nobra in collaboration with Nature Conservation Foundation (NCF), the program was initiated with a motive to generate baseline data and conservation awareness activity involving young minds. The event was initiated by the Bird Count India, Bird Conservation Nepal and the Royal Society for Protection of Nature, Bhutan, who brought together the Himalayan birding fraternity for a common good cause of the Himalayan Avifauna.

Dr. Stanzin Namgail (Coordinator, NSS) made a brief presentation on basics of birding/ bird-watching by familiarizing the participants about different bird-watching related applications and also highlighted about avifauna of Ladakh and importance of citizen science.

In the wee hours, the participants started bird count around Diskit, Nubra by visiting different wetland areas and counted around 20 species of birds in the vicinity.
