Himachal the state calamity: The Himachal Pradesh administration designated the severe damage caused by torrential rains a state calamity on Friday. This comes after the rain-soaked state recorded 77 fatalities by the end of Friday, with another body discovered in the rubble of a Shiva temple in the Summer Hill area.

According to a government declaration published in the state, the entire hill state has been deemed a “natural calamity affected area” because to the damage caused by torrential rains to human life and property.

Since Sunday, heavy rains have drenched the mountainous state, causing landslides in various districts, including Shimla.

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said rescue operations were in full swing and the state government was using its own resources to assist impacted people, particularly those whose homes had been devastated by flash floods and landslides.

According to the state emergency operations centre, 220 people have perished in rain-related accidents in Himachal Pradesh since the start of the monsoon on June 24, and 11,637 dwellings have been partially or fully damaged.

Over 600 highways remain closed in the state, with 550 expected to reopen in the next three days, according to Public Works Department (PWD) Minister Vikramaditya Singh.

408 transformers and 149 water supply networks were affected.

Over the last three days, 2,074 individuals have been evacuated from Kangra district’s flooded districts.
