Srinagar, 26th September 2024:- The Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court has directed the Union Territory Government to appoint a Chairman for the State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission as soon as possible. This vacancy has remained unfilled since the Commission was reconstituted.
During the proceedings of MA No. 184/2015 c/w MA Nos. 185/2015 & 186/2015, the bench, consisting of Justice Atul Sreedharan and Justice Mohd Yousuf Wani, expressed concerns about the lack of leadership in the Commission. The Chairman position is meant to be held by a retired High Court judge, making it essential for the effective functioning of the consumer dispute redressal process.
The court directed the government to take steps to fill this important role promptly. The next hearing in the case is set for 10th October 2024.
