Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, on Friday, honoured the fighter pilot who took a selfie of his bloodied face after ejecting from his plane as “Hero of Ukraine,” reported Newsweek.
Vadym Voroshylov, a military pilot who holds the rank of a Major in the Ukrainian armed forces, took a selfie of his bloodied face after shooting down an Iranian-produced Shahed-136 drone over the Ukrainian city of Vinnytsia and then ejecting from his jet just before its crash.
“Major Vadym Oleksandrovych Voroshylov shall be awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine and be presented with the Order of the Gold Star,” Zelensky announced.
“This title is awarded for personal courage and heroism displayed in the protection of the state sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine, and for selfless service to the Ukrainian people,” the Ukrainian president said.
