In anticipation of a surge in the number of pilgrims traveling to the Vaishno Devi shrine in Reasi, particularly in light of the Navratri celebrations that began on Tuesday, security measures have been heightened across the Jammu region, especially in Katra, which serves as the base camp for the pilgrimage. Several hundred thousand pilgrims are expected to visit the shrine in the coming days, and the CRPF has stationed personnel in and around Katra as well as along the yatra track.
Anshul Garg, the CEO of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, recently conducted a meeting with security agencies to evaluate their operational readiness. The meeting was attended by senior officials from the CRPF, the police, the Intelligence Bureau, and the CID. Garg highlighted that to ensure a smooth and trouble-free pilgrimage, various steps have been taken, including the verification of RFID cards, effective crowd management, and other measures.
According to sources, Quick Response Teams (QRTs) from both the CRPF and the J&K Police have been deployed, and drones will be used by security agencies to monitor critical areas.
