Heavy rain warning across India; alerts issued in Mumbai, Uttarakhand, Himachal

Heavy rain: Several parts of the country have been receiving incessant rainfall for the past few days. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a heavy to very heavy rainfall warning for several states, including Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Goa, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.

“Heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is very likely over West Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand during next five days,” said a statement in the IMD bulletin.

The weather department has predicted torrential rain across Uttarakhand till July 5. A Yellow alert has been issued in view of moderate to heavy rains in Dehradun as well as hilly areas of Uttarakhand in the coming days. Director of Meteorological Department Bikram Singh has appealed to avoid traveling during rain.

Heavy rain: Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand administration is on alert in view of heavy rains. Additional Director General of police (ADG) Law and Order, V Murugesan, has said that teams of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed along the Amarnath Yatra route, as well as in sensitive disaster areas.

“SDRF and NDRF are on full alert and instructions have been given to them to deal with any possible eventuality,” the ADG said.

In view of heavy rainfall across the state, the weather department has issued an orange alert in eight districts of the state.
