Heavy Rain Triggers Severe Waterlogging and Traffic Woes in Delhi and Gurugram

Sections of Delhi, Gurugram, and several other zones in the National Capital Region encountered substantial water accumulation following intense rainfall on Saturday morning. Although the downpour offered much-needed relief from the oppressive weather, numerous commuters utilized X (formerly Twitter) to express frustration over traffic congestion, urging the Delhi Police to take corrective measures.

Images from the Delhi-Gurugram Expressway in Haryana depicted individuals grappling with inundated streets, where the water rose above their knees. Similar visuals emerged from locations like Delhi’s Outer Ring Road and Bahadurgarh Road.

As the situation deteriorated, the Delhi Traffic Police advised commuters to avoid specific routes that were inundated due to the rain. A tweet stated, “There’s traffic disruption on the Outer Ring Road and connecting stretches due to waterlogging in both directions of the Bhera Enclave underpass. Kindly seek alternate routes.”

In a separate tweet, they informed about traffic disruption on Bahadurgarh Road due to waterlogging, saying, “Traffic flow on Bahadurgarh Road, from Bahadurgarh Stand, Firni Road, Najafgarh towards PTC Jharoda Kalan, is hindered due to waterlogging. One carriageway is already affected due to DJB work. We suggest avoiding this route.”

Furthermore, the traffic police alerted about traffic congestion on Rohtak Road in the carriageway from Peeragarhi to Punjabi Bagh, and on Ring Road from Bharat Darshan Park to the Punjabi Bagh roundabout. These jams were unrelated to the rain.

Meanwhile, some commuters tagged the traffic police on X, bringing attention to other affected routes. One user appealed, “Please assist in clearing the traffic. We’ve been stuck here at Mundka (Delhi-Rohtak road) for 2 hours.” Another individual reported a traffic snarl from Behra Enclave to Mangolpuri. A video was also shared by a user, claiming heavy traffic on the Raj Ghat flyover.

The Delhi Traffic Police assured that the relevant authorities had been notified.
