Heavy rain likely in Mumbai, Thane today, weather body sounds yellow alert

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) sounded a yellow alert in Mumbai, adjoining Thane and Palghar districts in Maharashtra, indicating heavy to very heavy rainfall on Wednesday.
As per the IMD, heavy showers will continue in these areas until the weekend.

An orange alert has been issued for August 3 (Thursday) indicating heavy to very heavy rains at isolated places in parts of Palghar, Thane and Raigad. An orange alert has also been sounded for Raigad and Ratnagiri districts of the state.

As per the IMD, light to moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy rainfall very likely to continue over Konkan and Goa and ghat areas of Madhya Maharashtra during the next three days with very heavy rains likely on August 3.

Catchment areas in the city should get more rain around August 3-4. After that, break monsoon phase is likely to start, so a decrease in rain is likely till August 20.

Mumbai received 747 mm of cumulative rain between July 21 and July 27. This time for July 2023, the city also surpassed the average monthly rainfall of 919.9 mm, with Santa Cruz Observatory recording a rainfall of 1,734 mm between July 1 and July 29.
