Manipur Cashes: At least 03 persons were killed in new acts of violence reported late Friday in Manipur’s Bishnupur district. The person who died are said to be from the Meitei community in Kwakta. Several Kuki community houses were also burned down in recent bouts of violence.
Following that, heavy firing took place between the Kuki community and security personnel in the Kwakta area of the Bishnupur district. The Manipur Police and Commandos retaliated.
According to police sources, a few persons crossed the buffer zone into Meitei communities and fired on them. The central forces-guarded buffer zone extends more than 2 kilometres ahead of the Kwakta area in Bishnupur district.
The violence came up two days after 17 persons were injured in clashes between armed personnel and Meitei protesters in Manipur’s Bishnupur district on Thursday.
During the firing, a Manipur commando sustained a head injury. Following the recent occurrences of violence, the situation in Bishnupur is rather grave. The commando was sent to the Bishnupur hospital. Paramilitary forces have been deployed in the area.
Armed forces and the Manipur Police fired tear gas shells to disperse protesters in the district’s Kangvai and Phougakchao regions.
