Poonch: After 52 years Government Girls Middle School Gulpur Ajote in Poonch has been renamed after its local martyr who attained martyrdom in Indo-Pak war of 1971.
After a long battle of three and half years and dedicated efforts of Social activist Sardar Kamaljit Singh another government school in Poonch has been renamed as martyr ‘Subedar Seva Singh’ on Friday.
Seva Singh Subedar attained martyrdom while fighting with Pakistan Army in Indo-Pakistan war in 1971 at the age of eighteen. Singh hailed from Gulpur Ajote village of Poonch which is situated along the LoC (Line of Control).
The local govt school has been renamed as ‘Martyr Shri Sewa Singh Subedar Govt Girls Middle School Poonch’ in his own village in Gulpur Ajote.
“It took three and a half years for me to prepare school renaming documents. No doubt it is PM Modi’s scheme and our honorable governor brought this scheme.
“But I’m the one who prepared all the documents and approached their offices with this proposal.
“After three and half years 83 schools approved by govt. I used to carry these documents given by Keran Singh to me during the 15-20 years of terrorism.
“After 52 years our martyr’s name has been approved by govt”, said Social activist Sardar Kamaljit Singh.
“I want to thank local administration and district committee from the bottom of my heart. DC Poonch, 99th Mountain Brigade fowarded our case to the govt. I thank them all.
“After a period of 52 years the govt has renamed an education institute after our martyr Seva Singh Subedar’s name who achieved martyrdom while fighting in Indo-Pak war of 1971. His name will remain alive forever now. His name will always be remembered.
“This program was organised by his family members, school staff and through their contribution this function became successful.
“I hope the govt rename another suitable institution after the martyr’s name who got martyrdom in Rajouri recently”, he added.
