Srinagar, June 18 (Gulistan News): Despite an official ban on private medical practice by government doctors in the Kashmir Valley, reports suggest that some continue to engage in this practice. Allegations persist that government doctors, drawing salaries from public funds, operate or are associated with private clinics, sometimes during official working hours.
Addressing a media gathering in Srinagar, Health Minister Sakina Masood Itoo acknowledged the ongoing violations, stating, “As far as doctors’ private practice is concerned, despite the ban, some are still continuing it. However, we haven’t received any complaints so far.”
“I’ve repeatedly said that if there is any complaint, it should come to us in writing, then action will be taken.” she added
Notably, the Jammu and Kashmir Health and Medical Education Department issued a directive earlier this year, the circular (No. 03-JK (HME) of 2025, dated 24.03.2025) strictly prohibiting doctors from engaging in private practice during official working hours.
