Drug problem in Valley: For making Jammu & Kashmir a drug free state, the government of Jammu and Kashmir are going to take a strict action against the drug addicts and drug paddlers. As per the reports, the Kashmir valley is slowly becoming a drug hub in North India, having more than 67,000 drug abusers, of which 90% are heroin addicts using more than 33,000 syringes daily.
A study done by the Government Medical College’s Psychiatry department in December 2022 has revealed that Kashmir has surpassed Punjab in drug abuse cases and is currently at the number two position among the top drug abuser states in the country.
Drug problem in Valley
As per the sources, from the last couple of months the district magistrates of all the districts of Jammu and Kashmir has chaired a meeting in which they’re trying to review the control measures. They said ways to vanish the drug problem in Kashmir have already been discussed and now the measures to stop drug peddling and drug addiction will shortly implemented in the valley.
Earlier government has also taken initiative to stop drug abuse in valley as they ran a “SAY NO TO DRUGS” campaign. Also, govt aware people through the Radio and Television announcement about the consequences of drugs and how it ruins human lives and society.
In the July 2022, Police Chief Dilbag Singh has claimed that Pakistan is not happy with the peaceful atmosphere in J&K and wants to promote Narco-terrorism by luring the youth towards drugs and use the money earned out of narco-sale to fuel terrorism,”
