Google’s I/O 2023 event in May introduced “Project Tailwind,” a venture by the tech giant. However, the project has since undergone a name change and is now referred to as “NotebookLM,” where “LM” denotes language model. It has also been made available for public testing.
Google describes NotebookLM as an “AI-first notebook” that prioritizes information selected and trusted by users. Currently in the experimental phase, the app is only accessible in the United States, requiring users to join a waiting list.
Presently, NotebookLM exclusively functions with Google Docs, but additional formats will be incorporated in the near future.
How does NotebookLM operate?- The application employs a method called the “source-grounding approach,” which reduces the occurrence of model “hallucinations.” It aims to merge the capabilities and potential of language models with users’ existing content to offer valuable insights.
Features of NotebookLM- NotebookLM enables users to accomplish three primary tasks: automatically summarize their notes and sources, pose questions related to uploaded documents, and generate innovative and fresh ideas.
Privacy- Uploaded files and documents remain invisible to other users. Moreover, Google assures that the collected data is not utilized to train new AI models.
