As the part of G 20 events, Govt. Model Degree College (GMDC) Zanskar today conducted an awareness-cum-interactive-session on “Cyber Crime and Drug Addiction” in the college premises.
Dorjay Gyaltsen, Station House Officer, (SHO) Padum, Zanskar was the guest speaker. The speaker spoke about the importance of college life in shaping career. He spoke about the challenges being faced by the youth, particularly by college students.
The SHO briefed about cybercrimes and how to stay safe in the age of social media. He also talked about writing vulgar or defaming comments on social media which might invite action in case of complaint.
The speaker also warned the students about mobile applications that are downloaded through links that are sent via messages or WhatsApp, which mirrors the phone and might lead to either data or monetary theft.
Furthermore, he informed that in many cases, casual use of social media like WhatsApp video chat with strangers might lead to black mailing as many such cases have been recorded in various places in India.
The SHO stressed that smartphones should be used with utmost precaution. In addition, the officer also warned about the psychological as well as legal ramifications of cybercrimes.
The officer also spoke about drug addiction and its symptoms. He informed that parents and guardians must be careful and stay alert with their children. In case of any unusual observations like being agitated and loneliness, such cases must reported to the police.
Earlier, Mohd Ishaq, Assistant Professor welcomed the speaker with traditional khataks. Stanzin Dadul Assistant Professor coordinated the program and also presented the vote of thanks. Students and faculty members of the college participated in the event.
