With the tremendous success of Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2, comparisons with this year’s earlier release, Pathaan, are gaining traction. Many are pondering whether Gadar 2 could potentially surpass Pathaan’s overall earnings; however, this outcome seems unlikely. Nevertheless, Sunny and his team still have reasons to rejoice, as Gadar 2 managed to outperform Pathaan in terms of domestic earnings over the first 10 days.
Gadar 2’s Superiority in 10-Day Domestic Revenue: According to a tweet by trade analyst Sumit Kadel, Gadar 2 garnered ₹375 crore net in India by the end of the 10th day (Sunday). This figure surpasses Pathaan’s domestic earnings in the same period, which stood at ₹364 crore. This achievement becomes even more remarkable when considering that Pathaan was released across more than 5500 screens in India, whereas Gadar 2 had access to only 4000 screens. Gadar 2 also faced competition from Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2, which performed decently well, whereas Pathaan enjoyed a solo release.
Not Winning the Race: Despite these impressive numbers for Gadar 2, it is still far from reaching the worldwide lifetime earnings of Pathaan, which amounted to ₹1050 crore. Gadar 2’s global gross stands at ₹490 crore, and it is projected to conclude its run with a total collection of ₹650-700 crore. The top-grossing Hindi films overseas remain Dangal at ₹2024 crore, followed by Pathaan at ₹1050 crore, and Secret Superstar at ₹965 crore.
About Gadar: Directed by Anil Sharma, Gadar 2 is the sequel to the 2001 hit film. Sunny Deol portrayed the character Tara, a truck driver, while Ameesha Patel played Sakina in this film set during the 1947 Partition of India.
Gadar 2 continues Tara Singh’s story as he embarks on a daring mission to rescue his son, played by Utkarsh Sharma, who has been captured in Pakistan.
Pathaan marked Shah Rukh Khan’s return to the silver screen after a four-year hiatus. He portrayed a spy in this movie directed by Sidharth Anand. The cast also included Deepika Padukone and John Abraham.
